Health and fitness is something that keeps becoming more and more important to me. I'll be honest - I've never been the best at consistently eating healthy or exercising, but it's something I work on every day. I commend those people - men or women - that have gained the discipline they need to work out daily and eat healthy all the time. That takes a lot of restraint, motivation and self-discipline.
This semester I am taking a nutrition class, so it's been very interesting to learn about the importance of eating healthy and getting all the right nutrients. It's made me more conscious about what I eat, for sure, but I still have those days where I eat too much or stop and get some fast food instead of cooking. I think we all have those days, and that's okay! Nobody's perfect. I will say though that what you eat definitely does affect how you feel. When I'm eating healthy I feel so much better physically - I have more energy and I don't get as bloated. I also feel better mentally which is important! My brain is less "foggy" and I don't have feelings of guilt nagging at me all day.
The same goes for when I exercise. I'm proud of myself if I get active for even just 10 minutes a day. One thing that helps is finding something you actually enjoy doing! I love lap swimming and wish I could do it as my main form of exercise, but since I don't have access to a lap pool, I've had to find other things. Something I've really learned to love is yoga. I don't do it as often as I used to, but when I do I like to follow the videos on the "Yoga with Adriene" YouTube channel. Go check her out and see if you like it! If I'm trying to get a quick burn in, I'll search through YouTube for something else. Something I've found that I've been liking is this video here. There are tons of other videos on this channel. There's a way to become active that will work for anyone! Whether it be lifting weights, cardio, going on walks, running, hiking, different classes; the list is endless.
I think this is an important day for women, because it's a reminder that we should be doing what we can to make ourselves healthy and strong! But, it's also important to learn to love yourself no matter what! Happiness doesn't come from restriction and guilt and punishing yourself if you skip your workout. It comes from love and acceptance. Everyone is beautiful the way that they are.
What are some things you guys like to do to stay healthy?
Such a simple yet nice article on accepting ourselves the way we are along with the fact that if we want to become our own greater self, we have to make of discipline our ally.
